The Ministry of Electronics & IT notified the IT Amendment Rules 2026, creating a new legal category for AI-generated synthetic content (deepfakes, voice clones, fabricated images) and requiring platforms to act within 3 hours of a lawful notice or forfeit their safe harbour protection under Section 79 of the IT Act.
